Brothers who loved their community. One is still giving back 50+ years after his death, Leonard L. and Allen A. Andres - Found and Returned!

Leonard L Andres was a generous man. One could argue he still is. Before his passing in 1972, Leonard established The Andres Memorial Trust. In it, he designated his trust funds be used for the benefit of the Charles City, Iowa community. He was specific in how the funds should be allocated but a quick search online will reveal that the Trust still exists today.

In a pile of old paperwork I recently purchased, there was an envelope with several facsimile copies of his will, donations, and correspondence between the attorney for Charles City and the Trust Bank Advisor.

It seems he was interested in the betterment of his community for a long time. There is a park named for him and his wife (The Andres Memorial Park) https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=104060, along with several improvements to the local cemetery, public library, hospital, etc.

Allen A. Andres lived his entire life in and around Charles City, Iowa. My research shows that he attended Iowa State University and operated a dairy and creamery business in both Charles City and Colwell. He was a former deacon of his local church, and a member of the Floyd School Board, Floyd County Board of Supervisors, and Floyd County Conservation Board. He was also a curator for the local historical society museum, superintendent of Riverside Cemetery, Mayor of Colwell, and worked for the City Improvement Association.*

Included in the artifacts for return is a letter and check for membership in the Iowa Creameries Association and an original stock certificate for one share of stock in the association, worth $1.00.

I'm hoping to reunite these precious family artifacts to a family member soon.
